LSL Senior 1B

Kilbarrack Utd – 5

Corduff FC – 0

Kilbarrack Utd opened up a gap at the top of the LSL Senior 1B table on Friday night with a five-star, five goal win over an impressive looking Corduff side at Greendale Road.

In a competitive first half, the visitors looked lively early on and came close to opening the scoring with only the upright keeping the scores level. The league’s bottom side were playing some slick, fast passing football that had the hosts chasing shadows on occasions.

As the half wore on Kilbarrack began to create more of the chances and their patience and persistence paid off after 39 mins when Sean Doyle raced through on goal, skipped past a rash challenge from the keeper and fired home from the right edge of the box.

Kilbarrack took that lead into the break and started the better of the two sides in the second half but the game remained evenly poised.

It wasn’t until the 69th minute that the second of the night came.  Anto Moran burst up the left and hit a low drive against the upright. The rebound fell to Moran but his scuffed cross looked to be heading high and wide but it somehow dropped at the back post where substitute Aaron Brennan was on hand to poke home.

Eight minutes later Kilbarrack were three up and the three points were in the bag. The lively Sean Doyle drove in from the right wing and hit a stinging shot that was parried into the path of Brennan who slotted home his second of the night.

With 82 minutes on the clock it was 4-0. Birthday boy Gavin Fitzsimons raced through on goal and hit a delightful little dink over the advancing keeper into the net.

There was still time for a fifth and with just two minutes remaining Brennan sealed his hat-trick by rounding the keeper and calmly slotting home.

The win leaves Kilbarrack top of the table on 30 points with an 8 point gap between themselves and second place, although the teams below do have games in hand.

Next up for Kilbarrack is a home cup tie against old rivals Collinstown FC  next Wednesday night.
