FAI Intermediate Cup
Killester Donnycarney – 4
Kilbarrack Utd – 1
Kilbarrack Utd exited the FAI Intermediate Cup at the first hurdle on Sunday after three goals in the final 15 minutes gave Killester Donnycarney the victory.
Going into the game the hosts, who play three divisions above Kilbarrack, were hot favourites for the victory.
Kilbarrack though started the game well and although going behind after a Stephen Chambers thunderbastard free kick on 15 minutes, hit back just a minute later when Aaron Brennan’s cross was flapped at by Evan Whelan who put the ball into his own net.
The sides went into the break level and after the turn it was even-steven with the game there for the taking for either side.
As the game entered the final 15 minutes it was evenly poised and looked to be heading towards extra time but disaster struck for Kilbarrack soon after. on 77 Eoin Fowler slotted home against his former side to make it 2-1 and with Shane Madigan already off injured, he was quickly followed by Adam Fox and Gavin Gaughran leaving Kilbarrack playing with 10 men as all 5 substitutions had been made.
With 6 minutes remaining Stephen Chambers fired home his second free kick of the day to make it 3-1 and as the clock ticked into added time he added his third and Killester’s fourth with a perfect chip over the advancing Conor Ennis.
Kilbarrack will be disappointed with a result that was not a fair reflection on the game but can feel proud of the performance against a top level side.
