LFA Junior Cup Rd 1
Kilbarrack United 2
Pegasus/St. James Ath. 1
An Absolutely outstanding performance from our Major 1D Saturday team in horrible conditions on Saturday evening as they dumped Pegasus/St. James from Division 1A out of the Leinster Junior Cup.
Kilbarrack took control of the game from the off and never looked in any danger of losing this game. Their passing football was a joy to watch as they made a mockery of the 3 division gap between the teams.
Kilbarrack took the lead on 25 minutes when a thunderous free kick from the excellent Josh McKenna was too much for the keeper to handle and he spilled it over the line for a deserved lead.
Every Kilbarrack player was giving 100% as they constantly had their opposition on the backfoot. The central defensive trio of Captain Darren Brewster, Ciaran Whelan and Kev Molloy were rock solid, the wing backs Ross McGuinness and Alex Bodanea were a constant threat going forward.
The midfield trio of Josh McKenna, Robbie Dolan and Karl O’Reilly were dominant and the front pairing of Brian Fitzmaurice and JP Brennan were a constant threat to the Pegasus defence. JP Brennan was having his best game in a Kilbarrack shirt and was rewarded with a second half goal after brilliant work from substitute Calvin Ryan.
Eamonn White had a fine effort just sail over the bar and fellow substitutes Armando Alemao Videira and Chris Dunne slotted in to see the game out to great effect.
Pegasus scored a well struck late penalty to the right of the excellent KUFC keeper Kayleum Rice but it proved to be a mere consolation as Kilbarrack advanced to the next round.
