LSL Senior 1 B

Leicester Celtic – 0

Kilbarrack Utd – 1

Kilbarrack Utd stayed in the LSL Senior 1B promotion hunt on Sunday with a deserved if hard fought victory over Leicester Celtic at a windswept Loreto Park.

Kilbarrack dominated the game in large sections, but it was a solitary Eoin Fowler goal which saw Kilbarrack take all three points on the day.

In the opening stages Kilbarrack could have been one down when a speculative effort hit a bobble and bounced over Matt Lyons’ low dive but captain Gav Gaughran got back to clear off the line.

Up the other end soon after a great through ball from David Jackson set Eoin Fowler free but his under-hit shot was telegraphed and the keeper made the save.

Kilbarrack maintained control of the play in the half but could not make it pay and the sides went into the break level.

Five minutes into the second half the deadlock was broken. A mix up in the Leicester Celtic defence saw Fowler latch onto the ball and fire home from close range.

Kilbarrack continued to control the pace of the game without ever seriously threatening the Leicester goal and there was a few nervy moments towards the end, particularly when Gav Gaughran received his second yellow with a few minutes to go.

Kilbarrack held on however to record their 13th victory of the season, and remained in third position on the table with five games still to play.

Next up for Chris McDonnell’s side is a home tie against Greenhills / Greenpark on Friday 19th April.
