LSL Senior 1B

Mt.Merrion – 1

Kilbarrack Utd – 1

Kilbarrack Utd gained a point but will feel like it was two points dropped against Mt. Merrion at College Road, Rathfarnham on Friday night.

Kilbarrack went into the game in third position, knowing a victory would take them ever closer to promotion from the LSL Senior 1B but on a night where a point was the take home, promotion rivals Collinstown won 8-1 against St James Gate to move into third position.

Chris McDonnell’s side do have a game in hand over their old AUL rivals, and know three wins from their three remaining games are a must to secure promotion.

Both goals in Friday night’s game came within minutes of each other. Mt.Merrion took the lead after 19 minutes when a deflected effort from their number nine flew into the net.

Just two minutes later Kilbarrack were level. Mikey Murphy picked up the ball 40 yards out, drove at the Mt.Merrion defence and hit a cracker from 20 yards that gave the keeper no chance.

Both sides had their chances to to add to the scoring but neither could convert and a draw was a fair result on the night.

Next up for Kilbarrack is a home time against fellow promotion chasers Mullingar Ath on Friday 10th May. Kick off 7.30pm
